Stay In The Fucking Game

In a pre-fight interview in the ’90s, Mike Tyson was asked whether he was worried about Evander Holyfield’s fight plan. His reply is now legendary:

"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."

You can plan as much as you want, but there’s no guarantee that the wheels will fall off. Then, when they do, many people act surprised. Some give up.

Too often in modern-day society, we’re told to aspire to the good stuff – fitter, healthier, wealthier, better – and many parents push their kids into believing they are special.

But, sooner or later, we all get punched in the face.

Firstly, we need to have the foresight and wisdom to expect it. We need to plan for the worst while hoping for the best (but definitely expect the worst).

Secondly, if there is something we really want, we need to understand that we don’t deserve it. We have to fight. When we get punched in the face, we must stay in the game. We need to get back up, no matter how many times we get hit.

If you’re trying to achieve something and no matter how hard you try, you keep taking knocks. Keep going.

Flex, try different approaches, but keep fucking going.
